Capacity Building Workshop on Dengue Management and Prevention Held at District General Hospital Matara
A half-day capacity building workshop on the management and prevention of dengue was successfully conducted on 24th June 2026 at the District General Hospital (DGH) Matara, organized by the National Dengue Control Unit in collaboration with the Ceylon College of Physicians and the Sri Lanka College of Internal Medicine.
The program brought together leading national experts in dengue and internal medicine to strengthen clinical preparedness and improve patient outcomes in dengue management. The resource persons included Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama (Consultant Physician, Senior Lecturer in Medicine, University of Moratuwa; Chairman, National Dengue Clinical Guideline Committee), Dr. Srilal De Silva (Consultant Paediatrician; Chairman, Committee to Review Dengue Related Deaths 2025–2026), and Dr. Krishantha Jayasekera (Consultant Physician, National Hospital Galle; Past President, Sri Lanka College of Internal Medicine).
The workshop was well attended by over 100 clinicians representing multiple specialties including consultant physicians, paediatricians, emergency medicine specialists, and cardiologists, along with medical superintendents of base hospitals, Medical Officers-in-Charge of district hospitals, and medical officers from various levels of the healthcare system. The multidisciplinary participation highlighted the continued national emphasis on strengthening integrated dengue care and response capacity.
The organizers extended their appreciation to the Director and staff of DGH Matara and the Rugunu Clinical Society for their support in facilitating the event and ensuring its successful execution.
This initiative forms part of ongoing national efforts to strengthen clinical capacity and reduce dengue-related morbidity and mortality in Sri Lanka.
